Lawrence Chan Gave a Speech in Memory of His Late Father Chan Chak Fu for the Family’s Philanthropic
In a ceremony presided by the honourable Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung on December 15th, the PolyU School of Hotel and Tourism Management, ranked #1 hotel school in the world by Shanghai Rankings, is officially named “The Mr. and Mrs. Chan Chak Fu School of Hotel and Tourism Management” with an endowment from the Chan Family.
Lawrence Chan gave a speech in memory of his late father Chan Chak Fu, committing to continue the family’s philanthropic journey starting with education and extending to healthcare, elderly services and relief of pain and suffering.
Mr. Chan Chak Fu was a Hong Kong hotelier who built a global hotel footprint over half a century. But home was always where his heart was, and as he himself was never able to receive a proper hotel training , he recognized the power of education. With the endowment which names the SHTM building, students will benefit for generations in a trade which opens up doors to the world.
As Nelson Mandela once said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." We wish the best to the SHTM and all of its students and may their dreams come true as they go out to change the world.
